Q. 6. Discuss the various views on the Indian village community. Do you agree with Irfan Habib that there was a common financial pool for the village community in India.

Ans. In the beginning of the 19th century the village community gained importance in the eyes of the British circles. To rule over the country by British had to create resources and they found the same available in abundance in the villages. In this regard the British Indian administrators started pouring light on the pros and cons of village community. By their critical study these British functionaries gave some particular meaning to the existence of village community.
