Q. 3. In the context of Indian examine the geographical spread of Pastoral Communities and the factors promoting pastoralism.

Ans. The pre-historic man was dependent on roots-stems and the meat of animals for his need of food. He used to hunt animals with his tools and implements. The hunter groups of men generally hunted from those groups which had big animals. In this process sometimes the young animals were captured by them. This must have encouraged men to domesticate animals and might have given way to the emergence of pastoralism. There is no clear evidence of the emergence of the pastoral community. We can merely depend on our imagination about that stage. It seems that the hunting-gathering communities had made some big animals their staple diet and in this process, the goat and sheep were hunted in a large number but the young members of the herds as well as female members were spared so that the source of food could not get terminated. This process might have developed the feelings of co-existence.
